You may hear a lot of stories about the band, “New Jerusalem” but if you attend one of their concerts you’ll understand that a picture is worth a thousand words.
Having their base in Minsk the band "New Jerusalem" has become one of the most popular bands bringing Christian and moral values onto the territory of the former Soviet Union for the last three years. When they were together for the first time in one group, for an event in 1991. The then members of the Minsk band "Kattie Sark", Igor Kopilov (guitar), Vadim Kalatsey (keyed instruments), Alexander Ìànetsky (percussion), an unemployed Àlexander Patlis decided to organize them into a band.
A lot of factors point the way to their faith. The band’s name was taken from the last book in the bible, "revelation". In the 21st chapter there is a city coming down from the sky. This city is called "New Jerusalem". Later Igor Sorokin (bass-guitar) and Elshad Babahanov (percussion) joined the band. Igor Sorokin improved the rhythm section of the band.
In October 1994 during their first American tour they gave 26 concerts and recorded their first album, "Holy God". In 1995 the band took part in one of the greatest festivals of Jewish music, in Belarus. It made a lasting impression and reflected on their music creativity, of that period. Their second album appeared approximately five months later. It was called "Return home". In the spring of 1997, during their fourth American tour their third album was recorded, it was called "So what do you think about that?" At the same time their first professional video clip was made. The song, “I know love” was chosen. In five months this song became the song of the year in Belarus. At the same time in Minsk, the first professional video of the band was made. The band started to appear on the top of the hit-parades in Belarus. In one year, 1997, the band gave more than 100 concerts in USA, Europe, Ukraine, Russia and Belarus. In 1999 the band recorded its fifth album, "New Jerusalem", in their own studio. This was a successful mixture of rock, rap, good rhythm and beautiful melody, which is characteristic of the music of the band, "New Jerusalem". The musicians try to be sincere in their songs, they try to write about topics that will be relevant to modern youth, and things that they have personally experienced. Many of their songs are autobiographical. For instance one real life event, experienced by Vladimir Kalatsey became the song "I know love".
Love for people and sincerity is the basic criteria for the songs of the band "New Jerusalem".
